A pleasant indie band. Last post for a month probably while I'm to Shanghai. They've been around in my archive for a quite some time. I haven't given them too much of a thought but they are relaxingly pleasant.
If you haven't already heard the Local Natives are restless. They are up in arms with pitchforks and baking soda. Apparently they stopped by last week and you weren't home. Unfortunately for you they left a baby on your doorstep without instructions. So bring out your forks a dinner party is awaiting your cupcakes.
Another must have folk/beatlesque album. It goes from lovey dovey to hop around good times to nerdy fun. You'll notice they pull a lot from a bunch of older bands and make it their own blend of yay times. Luckily no one is paying me to write these blurbs because I think I might already have been fired. P.S. their store page is under construction. If you do enjoy, which you will , buy it on itunes or some shit yo.
Lead singer for Sigur Ros' solo project. Here he branches out from his native/made up language and sings in English, although you'd be hard pressed to tell in some songs. You can tell that it's not his native tongue with some not well thought out lyrics, but it's fun none the less. It's incredibly upbeat with his uniquely high pitched vocals being layered to form an almost choir. Drink some coffee put this album on and you will be hard pressed to start a day off any better or cracked out.
This music is classified as Shibuya-kei, a sub-genre of Japanese pop music from the district of... Shibuya. According to band member Ohno, "We call ourselves Buffalo Daughter because our sound is very strong. And the buffalo is strong." The music is a bit odd, but interesting enough to give it a listen. The music video should give you a hint of what you are in for.
Moonface produced a single 20 plus minute track called Marimba and Shit-drums. It's by Spencer Krug which is another offshoot of Wolf Parade/Sunset Rubdown/Frog Eyes/Handsome Furs. They needed another side project for sure. If you are a fan it's worth grabbing. Keep an eye out for the new Wolf Parade. Two new tracks have been posted for your listening pleasure on pitchfork.
I'm throwing two small posts of more or less singles. Two tracks on this one. The first one Bay of Pigs is absolutely amazing and its over thirteen minutes. Every minute is amazing. The singer is known most from his solo work as A.C. Newman and better known from The New Pornographers. Bay of Pigs is a dark and thoughtful song about life and all that good stuff.
Tis Folktronica! It reminds me of Sufjan Stevens and Fleet Foxes. They are... british and good. Im not sure what else to say other than get this and enjoy.
The actor Ryan Gosling, his friend Zach Shields, and Morgan Slade teamed up to make music that reminisces of Disney's Haunted Mansion ride. Backing almost all of their tracks is a children's choir that helps add to their haunted factor. Although if you check out some of their music videos the kids just turn out to be adorable. Give it a few listens if you don't find yourself hooked immediately.
Some good folks from the music scene in Silver Lake, California. This is their first full length LP. They've previously toured with Oh No! Oh My! and opened for Silversun Pickups. Grab this and enjoyyyy yay!
